Premise: Not every flight plan is the same. Even when the intention of our flight plan is clear, we are constantly veering to the left or right, not always just straight ahead. Malfunctions, accidents … and mistakes … can and do happen on the journey. Each life has a flight plan. We all get off course. Tender mercies gently guide us back on course.
Moral: God knew us before we were formed in the womb. Think it not strange as we approach the end that we are on a flight plan. As long as we have breath to call on the name of Jesus, the flight plan can be amended or corrected. God says in his word, He will never leave or forsake us. We choose!
Postscript: Looking back, we see that we have navigated a meandering course of life. We realize highs, lows, joys, sorrows, happiness and bitterness. Eventually we will see that the co-pilot is Jesus. He has always had us in His care. A safe landing is His promise.
Meet the newest contributor to Veritas Chronicles, Sonja Johnston of Las Vegas, Nevada …
Sonja says of herself, “As a teenager, I came to know the Lord and live for Christ. The relationship established deep roots and a reverence for God’s work. But life happens and a falling away occurred.” However, Sonja eventually made her way to a local church where she has been a member now for over 30 years. Hence the “Flight Plans” snippets above.
Sonja earned an Associate in Electronics because programming and robotic engineering seemed to offer a promising future in the late 1980’s. In the end, she established her science and technical career repairing mainframe computers that filled half a room, and then later, desktop PC’s, for IBM. After IBM she worked as senior computer operator for a local bank. During that time Sonja attended Bethel College pursuing an undergraduate degree in Organizational Management.
Raising a son as a single mom while pursuing a busy professional career, Sonja quickly learned the importance of her parental stewardship. After a gap of 11.5 years, Sonja gave birth to a daughter, and her adolescent son behaved as if he was the man of the house. While Sonja was working a second shift she gave her son cooking lessons on the phone and taught him other valuable lessons, which he now imparts to her grandsons.
Sonja transferred to the mutual fund department at the bank so she could work day hours. Then, her career shifted into the managerial arena while working for the City of South Bend Water Works.
As life happens and careers transition, Sonja pursued new studies and obtained an Associate Degree in Nanotechnology. Part of the required curriculum was finding a place to work for an internship. A startup company called F3 (F Cubed) was creating a device that would detect the presence of bacteria in water and food utilizing carbon nanotubes. That experience led Sonja to work in quality assurance as a lab technician for McCormick Foods.
Sonja has volunteered on two boards: at the Robinson Community Learning Center, and with the South Bend Tribune.
Sonja enjoys dancing, piano, swimming and journaling.
Editors’ Note: Las Vegas has lots of lights and glitz, but there are plenty of rare jewels in that city, if you look behind the “glamor.” We found one in Sonja Johnston, a beautiful jewel in the Las Vegas landscape.
